Privacy policy
What Dock Builder collects on this website and in the app, why, who else handles it, and how to have it deleted.

Who we are
Dock Builder runs this website (dockbuilder.io) and the Dock Builder app (app.dockbuilder.io). That includes the dock designers that builders run on their own websites or at a builder-branded address. “We” means Dock Builder. For questions about this policy or your information, use the contact form.
What we collect
When you browse this website
- Pages you view. Our own page counter records the page, the domain of the site that sent you, and any campaign (utm) tags in the link. It sets no cookie. To count unique visitors it uses a one-way code made from your IP address and browser, which changes every day. The IP address itself isn’t stored.
- Google Analytics. It sets cookies and records how you use the site.
- What you send us. The contact form sends your name, email address, company, phone number if you give one, topic, message and the page you sent it from. The newsletter form sends your email address.
When you use the app
- Your account. Your name, email address, password (stored only as a one-way hash) and settings. Each sign-in keeps a session record with your IP address and browser.
- Your projects. Drawings, site locations and addresses, depths, notes, materials, quotes and prices, comments, uploaded photos and logos, and version history.
- Company accounts. Company name, logo, branding, team members and the contacts your team adds.
- Maps. Addresses you search for and your site’s coordinates are sent to Mapbox to show the map, satellite imagery and search results. “Use my location” asks your browser’s permission first.
- Usage and security. Google Analytics also runs in the app, including in builders’ designers, and records events such as signing up, signing in and sending a quote request. We also keep a log of sensitive account actions, the feedback you send from the app and server logs. All three include IP addresses.
When you request a quote through a builder’s designer
When you send a quote request from a dock builder’s designer, it goes to that builder. The request includes your name, email address, phone number if you give one, your note and your drawing, along with the site’s location and address if you entered them. The same goes for contact and newsletter forms in a builder’s designer. From then on the builder handles your information under its own privacy policy. We keep a copy to run the service. If a request isn’t tied to a particular builder, it comes to us, and we may pass it to a dock builder who can quote it.
Builders can add their own analytics to their designer (Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager or a Meta Pixel). Those tags run on the builder’s designer only, never on this website or app.dockbuilder.io.
In your browser
So the app works offline, it keeps your recent projects, unsynced edits and preferences in your browser’s storage. A project you draw in the free designer without an account stays only in your browser unless you send it.
Cookies
- Sign-in. A session cookie keeps you signed in to the app.
- Company branding. A cookie remembers your company’s name and logo so the app shows them while it loads.
- Email links. If you click a link in one of our marketing emails, a cookie remembers which email it was for 30 days, so we can tell whether it led to a sign-up.
- Google Analytics. Its cookies are set on this website and in the app.
Our own page counter uses no cookies.
How we use it
- To run the app: saving and syncing projects, showing maps, making PDFs, and sending the emails you ask for (account, sharing, comments and notifications).
- To reply to your messages and deliver quote requests to builders.
- To send the newsletter and product emails to people who signed up. Every one has an unsubscribe link. Our emails record when they’re opened and when a link in them is clicked.
- To see which pages and features get used, and to keep the service secure.
We don’t sell your personal information.
Who else handles it
- Google Cloud: hosting, file storage and backups.
- Our email provider (Resend or SendGrid): sending email.
- Mapbox: maps, satellite imagery and address search.
- Google Analytics: measuring use of the website and the app.
- Dock builders: the quote requests and messages you send through their designers.
We also disclose information when the law requires it.
How long we keep it
We keep account, project and contact information while your account is open, or until you delete it or ask us to. Unsubscribing stops our emails but keeps your address on a do-not-email list. Database backups are kept for 30 days.
Your choices
- Stop marketing email with the unsubscribe link in any of them.
- Export a project as a .json file from the app.
- Delete a project in the app, if you own it.
- Close your account, or ask for a copy, a correction or deletion of your information, by sending a support request from the email address you signed up with.
- Opt out of Google Analytics with Google’s opt-out add-on(opens in a new tab).
- A quote request you sent a builder is also held by that builder, so contact them about their copy.
Children
Dock Builder is for people planning and building docks. It isn’t directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their information.
